Stop the presses! The Internet is now safe again!

MySpace has now agreed to let parents register their children’s email addresses so that they can’t sign up for MySpace.  Hurray!  The age of actually having to monitor your child’s Internet usage is over, because as we all know, MySpace is the only evil out there, and there’s no possible way that the kiddies can get around this one.

The Recession of 1987 Predicted in 1983…

And guess who…

Wow!  That speech sounds awfully familiar…  Oh, that’s right!  He’s still giving it in the Republican debates!  Ladies and gentlemen, meet Ron Paul.  This is the guy who can fix our economy.  I’ll be voting for him this year.  Will you?

Bush, Bombs, and Auschwitz

Okay, I have to admit that I didn’t get much past the headline before I started giggling.  Fox really needs to proofread more:

“Bush Says U.S. Should Have Bombed WWII Death Camp During Holocaust Memorial Tour”

My first thought was, “He wanted to bomb it when?”

But then I actually read the article.  It does get worse, and it starts in the first sentence.

“President Bush had tears in his eyes during an hour-long tour of Israel’s Holocaust memorial Friday and told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the U.S. should have bombed Auschwitz to halt the killing, the memorial’s chairman said.”

I had to wince, and it wasn’t due to the picture of the president wearing a yarmulke.  It might not have occurred to him that there were prisoners in that camp that we’d have likely wanted to rescue, and that the idea of killing the innocents so that the bad guys can do no more harm (if that was what he was implying) leaves me picturing the prez as Keyser Soze.  Not good.  Now, I’m sure that he wasn’t implying that we should have killed the many innocents who were imprisoned there, but he just doesn’t think before he speaks.

Gary White Found Guilty

Yet another one of our public officials found guilty on corruption charges.  I’ve honestly lost count at this point, but I believe the official number is somewhere in the low twenties by now.  And I wonder how many more we have yet to see indicted.

What more do you need to know?

It seems that the writers at The Birmingham News are back to doing their job.

In a nutshell…  Langford received money from a firm who advised Birmingham to withdraw from the SWMA.  Very soon after, Birmingham pulls out of the SWMA.  Now said firm wants to take up the former job of the SWMA.  This isn’t rocket science, folks.

Richardson Down

Bill Richardson will be dropping out of the presidential race.  I wasn’t too much of a die hard fan, really.  He was big on 2nd Amendment rights, but I wasn’t too crazy on anything else he had to offer.

Kerry Endorses Clinton

Okay, so technically John Kerry said that he’s endorsing Barack Obama.  But since a Kerry endorsement could spell disaster for any candidate, I like to think that he’s secretly working for the Hillary camp…

If public crying disqualifies you for office…

…then a slew of male politicians would be on that list.

That includes Mitt Romney and former president George H. W. Bush.

So, like Jon Stewart pointed out this week, I’m assuming that Hillary Clinton must have had an emotional breakdown to justify the media coverage.  Well, let’s take a look at what actually happened:

I don’t even think I saw tears…  Trust me.  I’ve seen a woman have an emotional breakdown.  That wasn’t even crying.  It wasn’t even close.  It was a little choked up, maybe.  At best.  If you want to see a politician cry, well here you go:

Maybe they’ll start reporting the actual news, now…

Well, the Birmingham News has always been pro-dome, but I wasn’t the only one who noticed a sudden surge in kissing up to Mayor La La from the News. That was mostly due to fear from the publication that Langford would pull a major source of income from them– paid legal advertising.

Well, that threat is no longer good– at least for now.  So maybe I won’t read any more editorials about how nobody should question Langford.

The Birmingham City Council voted yesterday to continue the advertising while the mayor seeks an opinion from the attorney general.  (Someone, particularly a prominent Democrat, asking for an opinion from Troy King?  This could get interesting!)

So now Langford can get back to thinly veiled boycott threats to Trussville Mayor Gene Melton because Melton dared to offer a negative opinion on a structure being build just outside the city he runs.   Honestly, I think when comparing the average disposable income of Birmingham and Trussville residents, Langford has more to fear from loss of Trussville shoppers than Melton has to fear from the reverse situation.

McCain and Clinton? Really?

Seriously, I didn’t think that the Magic 8-Ball would be better at predicting the outcome than some political pundits.  (And yes, I actually WAS asking a Magic 8-Ball.)

I really don’t have much to add to the news that McCain and Clinton won New Hampshire.  There’s really not much that I can say that hasn’t already been said.  Only two states in, and I’ll likely be voting Democrat this year, it seems.  The only candidate I like is Ron Paul, and so far he doesn’t seem to be doing well.  I don’t care for any of the Dem candidates.  Obama is nice, but he’s too liberal for my taste.  Still, I’d rather hold my nose and vote Democrat than to vote for Dubya 2.0 in 2008.
