My personal feeling was that there was nothing new, here. The only real thing that got my attention was one question that I thought was refreshing to hear: “What do you NOT know, and how would you learn it?” Now THAT’S a good, hard-hitting question that our journalists should be asking. (Of course, neither candidate actually answered the question.)
It looks as if Loretta Nall had the same reaction to the debate that I had. Zzzzzap! Though I have to disagree with her on one thing– I actually got a chuckle from McCain’s little joke about the Treasury Secretary not being Tom Brokaw. I thought it lightened the mood a bit. I also would have proposed giving the zapper buttons to members of the audience (even those at home). It definitely would have made the night much more entertaining for me.
Over at FactCheck.org, their heads are probably spinning from all the live blogging. Fact Checking these two in real time is a job I would NOT want. I have a hard enough time keeping up with just one candidate– much less two.
Over at The Moderate Voice, we have several folks weighing in. Most are calling it for Obama. Polimom remains undecided– particularly after Obama’s statement that health care is a right. Dorian De Wind wonders why McCain didn’t use the “smear card.” (I’d wager that he’s starting to realize that it’s making matters worse for him. I know that for me it’s what turned me off and eventually encouraged me to start blogging again out of outrage over the McCain metamorphosis from maverick to meanie.) But this has to be one of the funniest political cartoons I’ve seen in a while:
