A Frightening Look at the Politics of Hatred

As you’ve probably noticed, both campaigns have gotten uglier, but in particular, I see a disturbing trend at McCain/Palin rallies. This attempt to paint Barack Obama as a Muslim extremist by McCain supporters is encouraging a lynch mob mentality, and neither McCain nor Palin are doing anything to discourage it. How bad is it? Well, take a look at the following video and listen to what the crowd is yelling in response to McCain’s remarks:
That’s right. You just heard folks calling Barack Obama a “terrorist” and shouting to “kill him.”
This was repeated at a rally where Gov. Palin spoke.
Folks, this has gone beyond a little political competitiveness and crossed the line into flat out hatred and lynch mob mentality. It’s disturbing at the very least and outright horrifying at worst. We are talking about hate speech and negative attacks coming from supporters and campaigns of a presidential candidate that could very well be putting the life of another man at risk! With at least one attempt on Obama’s life having been foiled by the Secret Service, what on EARTH are these people THINKING?!
