Pay Raises
Posted by ALmod on March 21, 2007
I picked a heck of a day to abstain from blogging. I hadn’t planned it, but I ended up having more of a personal life yesterday than was anticipated. Either way, I can’t really contribute anything new to the discussion. I just wanted to mention that I’m extremely disappointed with my own representatives, Rep. Jim McClendon and Sen. Scott Beason, for voting for the measure. There’s only one thing that they can possibly do to make this one up to me, and that would be to vote against HB322 (which prohibits city and county governments from raising their minimum wage above federal minimum) and to vote for Patricia Todd’s HB331 (which raises the state minimum wage). While I’m at it, I want to see Mike Ball’s I&R legislation passed. I want to see all of these things happen before they’re back in my good graces. Otherwise, I have no justified reason to vote for them again or to allow them to go unopposed when they’re up for re-election. I suggest that if you have a legislator that voted for the pay raise who has not given you any other reason to despise them, this might make a decent “last chance” condition, should you wish to give them another chance. After all, if they see fit to raise their own pay, surely they wouldn’t have a problem in raising pay for those making minimum wage.
Here are some links to others covering the story. If I’ve left you out, please comment here with the link, and I’ll get it up ASAP.
