Froma Harrop had an excellent op-ed piece featured in today’s Birmingham News that pretty much sums up my frustrations with those who are arguing against the raise in minimum wage.
I’d cut and paste the parts I agree with, but then I’d have to just paste the whole thing. She pretty much said it all, so I really don’t have any room to comment, either.

Yesterday, I made a comment about George Takei’s appearance on NBC’s Heroes. I wondered if anyone else had caught the license tag on the car he got into. Turns out, I hadn’t yet checked Wil Wheaton’s blog…
“I don’t know how many viewers caught it, but when George gets into his car, the license plate was NCC1701, which made me leap up and holla (holla? that’s what you damn kids today say, right?) which confused the hell out of my kids who have threads of geek running through them, but not necessarily the Trekkie threads (I guess it’s like the shoemaker’s kids being barefoot.)”

I’m going to say this on behalf of computer programmers everywhere. You have got to be kidding me! This is changing time/date settings, not scripting “Star Wars” (the anti-missile defense system, not the movie). It’s one of the simplest things to do in the history of programming. It’s not exactly the apocalypse.
Then again, maybe all those folks who panicked over the “Y2K bug” will finally get an opportunity to use that bomb shelter full of Snickers bars and bottled water.

Since I’m back, I figured I might as well start out by cleaning up the ol‘ blogroll. I’ve removed a few blogs that haven’t been updated since last year and are clearly dead. I was hopeful up until the very end. Obviously, if I’ve removed yours by accident (or if I missed one), please let me know. My husband, infrequent poster that he is, will stay. That one isn’t negotiable.
